The Japanese bubble economy era produced some of the most exciting enthusiast cars from every manufacturer. Better yet, they were almost all being imported to the US! Americans could drive affordable sports cars of their choosing instead of being stuck between GM and Ford’s crap-to-drive sub-200 hp V8 “muscle cars”.
Imagine replacing the fierce battle for sales between manufacturers of today. Instead of crossovers and cars on lift kits like the CX-5, RAV-4, CR-V and Morono, there was the halo GT car.

RX-7, Supra, NSX, 300ZX, and 3000GT.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Then the sports cars.
MX-5, MR2, 240sx.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Then the sport coupes.
MX-6, Celica, Integra, Eclipse.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Then the mini sportsters.
MX-3, Paseo, Del Sol, NX2000, Impulse.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
What would be your choice in each class?
Mine would be RX-7, MX-5, Celica, and MX-3.
This way I get to experience boost going in and apex seals going out, top down driving pleasure, AWD turbo rally-goodness, and B-spec DD.

RX-7, 240, MX-6, Impulse. Also, there should be a Kei class too, for that, I’d go with a Beat. Also available would be the Autozam AZ-1, and the Suzuki Cappucino.

The 300ZX is more of a sports car. The R33 GT-R was Nissan’s 90’s halo GT car.
NSX
MR2
Integra
Replace the Paseo with a Cera and I’m in.

RX-7, MR2, MX6, Del sol.

I only included cars imported to US. That is why I couldn’t add the Skyline.
:(

True but the TT 300zx is close in power-to-weight level as the others in that class. And Skylines weren’t imported to US.

Ah, that makes more sense then.

You would choose a Beat over an AZ-1?! Are you insane man?
![]() 11/20/2015 at 15:32 |

I’ll probably go 300ZX, MX-5, Integra, Del Sol
![]() 11/20/2015 at 15:33 |

Yes. I would.
Deal with it.

I’ll just take a Mazda 929. Basically covers the bases of all but the mini sportsters class, and those don’t have enough legroom anyway.

RX7, MR2, Celica, Impulse.

Uh...in what way does a luxury full size sedan cover any of the bases?
Just curious. But you are living up to your name.

Supra, 240sx, Integra, Impulse

300ZX
MR2
Celica ST205 GT-four
Honda Del Sol

RX-7
MX-5
Integra
MX-3

Surprisingly the first Supra I got.

NSX, 240sx, Integra, Del Slow

One car to rule them all.

Rear wheel drive, stout 200hp V6 engine, and the placement of the engine behind the front axel and gas tank above the rear axel for better weight distribution and handling, same as an RX-7 or Cosmo.
Though it may be big, it is sprightly. It is no land yacht. Anything the Japanese make handles. Put a 929 and a Deville of the same vintage on a slalom course.
Never underestimate a manufacturers top of the line luxury model. They have to put their best stuff from across the lineup in it to command a high price. That usually means a very powerful engine and a very sure footed suspension setup.

RX-7, MX-5, Eclipse Turbo AWD, Impulse RS Turbo AWD.

Go easy on the turbo awd there, guy.
![]() 11/20/2015 at 16:12 |

The beauty is, I wouldn't have to! 2 RWD Mazdas balance it out.
![]() 11/20/2015 at 16:17 |

I like your way of thinking.
I’m actually thinking of getting a cheap MX-3 or peanut-eye WRX as my 3rd car. A tiny, tossable beater or turbo AWD car that would scratch either of the two itches I have.
![]() 11/20/2015 at 16:18 |

The MX-3 really gave me pause. Tiny V6 and all...
![]() 11/20/2015 at 16:20 |
|
It is 2,400 lbs with 130 hp! TINY V6, 4 wheel independent suspension. It beat the Impulse and others in cornering tests. Why did you choose the Impulse?
![]() 11/20/2015 at 16:28 |
|
NSX,MR2,Integra,Del Sol. Probably. I don’t know. Just give me all the cars in the 1st class.
![]() 11/20/2015 at 16:31 |

The Isuzu was 2,732 in AWD turbo (160hp 1.6L) guise. Better power to weight. And passive rear-wheel steering.
![]() 11/20/2015 at 16:41 |

Yeah I think maybe I shoulda left the Impulse out of this class. Thise numbers are in line with the mx-6 class. Almost exactly same power and same weight. But in that class, the impulse would get destroyed.

Corvette
Mercury Capri
Ford Probe
Saturn SC2

![]() 11/20/2015 at 16:43 |

Well... the FWD Impulse weighed the same as the MX-3.
![]() 11/20/2015 at 16:46 |

Corvette would get destroyed by any of those.
Capri...instead of those 3 cars? You must be joking.
Okay the Probe can stand its own because it is just an MX-6 with ugly interior.
SC2? Would get slaughtered.

You do understand I was just kidding right? Don't be so serious.
![]() 11/20/2015 at 16:58 |

I wasn’t being serious either but damn, I can’t convey tone of voice through text.
![]() 11/20/2015 at 16:58 |

I’d choose the Suzuki Cappucino over the AZ-1 and Beat.
![]() 11/20/2015 at 17:04 |

NSX, MX-5, MX-6, Impulse, and Cappuccino. The Cappuccino turns 25 next year! I want to import one in 3-4 years.
